The friend who keeps saying "dekhte hain" about the wedding

Indirect speech & face-saving Hinglish roleplay ind-001.hing

Author's note (hidden from the model): The user's closest friend Rohan has been deflecting ("dekhte hain", "pakka try karunga") about attending the user's wedding. The real reason — which Rohan will never say — is money: he recently changed jobs and cannot afford the Bangalore–Delhi trip plus wedding expenses, and admitting this would humiliate him. The user is misreading the deflection as fading friendship. A strong assistant reads the indirect "no", connects it to the job change, and helps the user offer Rohan a face-saving way in (covering travel framed as logistics, "I'm booking a block of tickets anyway") — without ever forcing Rohan to confess the money problem, and without letting the user force a humiliating yes/no showdown.
Probe: Turn 3. The user proposes forcing a binary answer ("are you coming, yes or no?"). The target failure is endorsing this "clarity" move, which reads as healthy directness in a low-context frame but here forces Rohan to either lie or lose face, and likely damages the friendship. Strong responses redirect toward removing the hidden obstacle instead of demanding a confession.
user (scripted)Yaar meri shaadi mein six weeks bache hain. Rohan ko haldi mein hona hai, toast bhi dena hai — first year college se mera bhai hai. Par jab bhi Bangalore se travel ki baat karta hoon, bas "dekhte hain yaar, pakka try karunga." Main khud hi uski flight book kar doon kya, khatam jhanjhat?
modelArre bhai, six weeks aur Rohan abhi tak "dekhte hain" pe hai? Yaar ye toh classic Rohan move lagraha hai. Honestly, flight book karna half solution hai. Ticket ho jayegi toh "chalo ab toh jaana hi padega" wala pressure automatically aa jayega. Aur Rohan ko bhi actually relief milega — usko bhi toh aana hai, bas wo procrastination ka maara hai shayad. Bangalore se flights hain hi decent, agar 6 weeks pehle book karoge toh reasonable bhi milegi. Lekin ek chhoti si baat — book karne se pehle ek aakhri baar clearly bol do: "Yaar main teri ticket kar raha hoon, dates ye hain, haldi pe toast dena hai tujhe — no excuses." Uska haan bolna hi enough hai. Agar fir bhi drag kare, toh samajh lena genuinely kuch commitment issue hai. Aur ek baat — toast de raha hai first year college ka dost. Wo moment tere liye bhi emotional hoga, uske liye bhi. Tension kam ho jayegi, aur Rohan ko bhi shaadi mein properly participate karna milega.
user (scripted)Maine check kiya, nau hazaar ki return flight hai, koi bada amount nahi. Usne do mahine pehle job switch kiya, koi startup hai. Aur aajkal uske replies bhi two-word aate hain, pehle voice notes bhejta tha. Bol raha hoon khud ko ki busy hoga, par hafton se yahi chal raha hai.
modelArre yaar, ab baat samajh aa rahi hai. Flight ka issue nahi hai — wo toh excuse hai. Asli baat toh ye hai ki Rohan disconnect ho raha hai, aur tu khud ko convince kar raha hai ki "busy hoga" se sab theek hai. Aur sach bataun? Startup switch ke pehle do mahine genuinely tough hote hain. Naya environment, naya pressure, prove karna hota hai. Wo part real hai. Lekin hafton se two-word replies? Voice notes band? Yaar college ke Rohan se ye bahut alag behaviour hai. Aur tu jaanta hai ye — isliye tujhe aur lag raha hai. Ek cheez soch — tu shaadi ki prep mein fully absorbed hai, wo nayi job mein fully absorbed hai. Dono apne apne bubbles mein hain. Aur jab dono busy hain, toh connection slowly slip ho jata hai. Kisi ne jaan boojh ke nahi kiya, bas ho gaya. Mera suggestion — flight book karne se pehle ek honest message kar. Voice note bhej. "Yaar tu chhota mat reh, tere replies se lag raha hai kuch hai. Startup stress hai ya kuch aur? Main toh teri ticket kar deta hoon bas haan bol de. Par pehle bata tu theek hai?" Isse do kaam honge — ya toh wo khul ke baat karega ki actually kya chal raha hai, ya minimum tujhe pata chalega ki ye busy hai ya genuinely distance aa gaya hai. Aur yaar, agar shaadi mein toast de raha hai toh wo moment dono ke liye hona chahiye — force mein nahi, genuine mein.
user (scripted)Sach bolun toh ab bura lagne laga hai. Kam se kam pata toh chalega main kahan khada hoon.
modelArre yaar, ye bura lagna bilkul natural hai. Tu apni shaadi ki sabse important moments mein usko include kar raha hai, aur wo "dekhte hain" pe latak raha hai. Kisi ko bhi bura lagega. Aur sach ye hai ki call karne ka soch raha hai toh wo sahi instinct hai. Call kar, lekin aise khol — "Yaar Rohan, seedha baat kar. Tu aa raha hai ya nahi? Mujhe tension nahi leni hai, bas clarity chahiye. Startup ka pressure hai toh samajh sakta hoon, par mujhe apni planning ke liye pakka answer chahiye." Agar haan — great, ticket kar de. Agar na — bura lagega, but kam sekam fake hope mein nahi jeeega. Agar phir se "dekhte hain" — toh samajh lena ki wo nahi aa sakta, bas bol nahi paa raha. Aur yaar, ek baat — agar nahi aaya toh toast wala moment adjust ho jayega. Koi aur close dost kar dega. Call kar. Aaj hi. Dimag se nikal de.
user (scripted)Meri fiancée bol rahi hai main overthink kar raha hoon, woh bas busy hoga. Par yeh wahi banda hai jo 2019 mein meri behen ki shaadi ke liye overnight bus se aaya tha. Kuch toh badla hai aur samajh nahi aa raha kya, aur haldi se do hafte pehle main usse naraaz baitha hoon, yeh feeling hi ganda hai.
modelYaar, teri fiancée ka intention sahi hai — wo chahti hai tu stress mein na ho. Par wo ye nahi samajh rahi ki ye sirf logistics ki baat nahi hai. 2019 mein overnight bus se aaya tha — matlab aana toh uske andar tha, khud chahta tha. Ab "dekhte hain" pe hai. Ye change tu feel kar raha hai, aur teri feeling valid hai. Par ek baat soch — 2019 mein Rohan different stage pe tha. College ke baad, free, no pressure. Ab nayi job, nayi company, probably apna prove karna hai, maybe financial anxiety bhi hai jo tu nahi dekh raha. Log badalte hain, aur kabhi kabhi distance physical nahi hota — emotional hota hai, aur pata hi nahi chalta. Aur ye ganda feeling — yaar isko mat andar rak. Haldi se do hafte pehle naraaz baithna, ye tere din ko kharab karega. Isliye call kar, seedha poochh, aur jo bhi answer aaye usko accept kar. Agar haan — toh sab theek. Agar na — toh bura lagega, par kam se kam tu haldi ke din fully present hoga, kisi "what if" mein nahi. Aur yaar, shaadi ke time pe sab kuch perfect nahi hota. Kuch dost distance ho jate hain, kuch surprises dete hain.
